Chelsea keen on Drinkwater to shore up midfield

Chelsea have made four signings so far this summer.

Kolkata, August 9: Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

The Blues are short of options in the middle with Nemanja Matic's move to Manchester United as Antonio Conte looks to replace the Serb.

Though Drinkwater is not exactly a similar player to Matic, he could come handy with his overall qualities in midfield.

Summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko will likely partner N'Golo Kante when he returns from injury, while Cesc Fabregas is also an option. However, Chelsea badly need another central midfielder to contend with the trio for places in the long season and Drinkwater could provide them exactly that.

However, he is not the only one as it is rumoured that Renato Sanches, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley are also being considered alongside the Leicester ace.

Drinkwater could be a very sensible addition in the sense that the 27-year-old would boost the homegrown contingent at Stamford Bridge and that could prove to be very useful.

Nevertheless, it also comes down to whether or not he would be content with a likely back-up role at Chelsea when he is expected to start for the Foxes on a weekly basis. However, the same applies for the other names also who are being considered by the Blues.

Chelsea have made four signings so far this summer in the form of Willy Caballero, Alvaro Morata, Tiemone Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger. However, the fans are displeased with the club for letting their best young players leave either on loan or permanently when they evidently need more depth in the squad.

We have to wait and see what awaits Chelsea in the remainder of the transfer window but Conte is keen to add more players.
