Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has been offered a new contract amid ongoing speculation about his future. Gallagher, who joined Chelsea in 2008, has been linked with a transfer away from Stamford Bridge during the current window. The 24-year-old captained the team to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season and turned down a £57 million offer from Aston Villa in June.
Gallagher played a crucial role in Chelsea securing European football under Mauricio Pochettino, outperforming fellow midfielders Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo. The England international averaged 1.49 tackles per 90 minutes in the Premier League last season, compared to Caicedo's 1.44 and Fernandez's 0.89. Additionally, he made more interceptions (43) and created more chances (53) than his midfield partners.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed on a £33 million deal with Atletico Madrid, giving Gallagher until this weekend to decide if he wants to join Diego Simeone's side. Currently enjoying an extended break after participating in Euro 2024 with England, Gallagher has not travelled with Chelsea on their pre-season tour of the United States.
Maresca stated, "I can say that he is in contact with the club to find a solution and the club has offered him a new contract. That is the news that I have received." He added, "The main focus or target at the moment for me, Connor and the club is to find a solution that makes everyone happy."
Despite his impressive stats, Chelsea do not believe Gallagher will fit into Maresca's style of play. This uncertainty adds another layer to his potential move away from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are preparing to face Manchester City on Saturday in Ohio as they conclude their pre-season preparations. This match will be crucial as they gear up for the opening day of the Premier League season.

The uncertainty surrounding Gallagher’s future continues as both parties seek an agreeable resolution. His contributions last season were significant, but whether he remains at Chelsea or moves to Atletico Madrid remains to be seen.
