Sonia Bompastor praised her Chelsea squad for quickly adapting to her strategies after their 1-0 friendly win over Arsenal. Sandy Baltimore, a new addition to the team, scored the decisive goal at Audi Field in Chicago. This victory marked a positive start under Bompastor's leadership.
Despite acknowledging that more work is needed before their Women's Super League (WSL) opener against Aston Villa on September 20, Bompastor is pleased with the team's progress. "What I take from the game is that we worked really hard as a team and even if we had difficult moments, we were able to manage them," she said. "This is a good team spirit and I like that."

Bompastor emphasised the importance of team spirit, noting that the players have shown unity even during challenging moments. "I think what we have wanted to work on since the beginning has been about the team spirit and from the two games we've played you can see we are playing like a team together, even when we have hard moments in games," she explained.
The former Lyon boss took over after Emma Hayes left for the United States job. Under her guidance, Chelsea has secured two pre-season victories, including a 3-1 win over Gotham FC. These matches have provided valuable opportunities for building and progressing as a team.
Bompastor's early success with Chelsea includes overcoming London rivals Arsenal and Gotham FC. She believes these victories are crucial for reinforcing her game model and expectations. "From these two games, we will be working, progressing and reinforcing the messages on the game model," she stated.
She also highlighted that it has been less than a month since she started working with the team. "We are in the beginning. It's not even been one month working with the team and it takes time to make sure all the girls understand our game model and the expectations I have of them on the field," Bompastor noted.
Chelsea aims to secure their sixth consecutive WSL title this season. The team's performance in pre-season friendlies indicates they are on the right track under Bompastor's leadership. The upcoming match against Aston Villa will be an important test of their readiness.
Bompastor remains optimistic about her players' potential and achievements so far. "I'm already happy with the girls, their performance and what they're achieving on the field," she said.
The focus now shifts to maintaining this momentum as they prepare for competitive fixtures ahead. With Bompastor at the helm, Chelsea looks poised for another successful season in women's football.
