Chelsea are reportedly making a late bid to secure a striker as the summer transfer window draws to a close.

And as per latest reports, they have moved their attention to Brentford striker Ivan Toney. The 28-year-old forward has been a standout performer, netting 72 goals in 141 matches for Brentford, which includes 36 goals in 85 Premier League appearances.

With less than a year left on his contract, Brentford initially valued him at £70 million, but that figure has recently been lowered to around £45 million, making him a more accessible target for Chelsea.

Toney has not played in Brentford's first two league games this season, hinting that his future may be uncertain amid the ongoing transfer discussions. Although he has received a tempting offer from Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, Toney is believed to prefer staying in England, feeling that his best football is still ahead of him. A move to Chelsea would allow him to remain in the Premier League, which could be a significant factor in his decision.

The Blues have been on the lookout for a striker all summer, and their earlier interest in Napoli's Victor Osimhen did not materialize into a transfer. If Toney makes the switch to Chelsea, he would become the club's 13th signing of the window, following the recent acquisition of goalkeeper Mike Penders for £17 million.

With the transfer deadline approaching on Friday, Chelsea is expected to be active not only in bringing in new players but also in managing outgoing transfers. The England striker was linked with a move to Arsenal but the meeting with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta turned out to be unfruitful for Toney.
