Chelsea's manager, Enzo Maresca, has expressed confidence in Jorrel Hato, a recent addition to the team. With Levi Colwill sidelined due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Hato's role in the defence is expected to be more significant than initially planned. Colwill underwent successful surgery and is anticipated to miss most of the season, making Hato's contribution crucial for Chelsea.
Hato joined Chelsea from Ajax on Sunday, bringing with him over 100 senior appearances and six caps for the Netherlands. Despite being only 19 years old, he has already captained Ajax and played 75 matches in the Eredivisie. Maresca acknowledged Hato's maturity but emphasised the need for adaptation to a new country and league.

Maresca stated on the club's website that although Hato needs time to adjust to English football's tempo and intensity, there is no doubt about his potential to aid the team. The manager also highlighted that other new signings like Estevao will require time to settle into their roles.
This week, Chelsea welcomed Estevao, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, and Joao Pedro back to training at their Cobham base. The squad gathered for the first time since winning the FIFA Club World Cup. Maresca noted that Jamie Bynoe-Gittens might have some familiarity with England and the Premier League despite his youth.
The manager pointed out that players like Dario Essugo, Andrey Santos, Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro had already been part of their USA tour. This prior experience should ease their transition into the team dynamics as they prepare for upcoming challenges.
Chelsea is set to face Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan in pre-season matches before starting their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace on August 17. These games will be crucial for integrating new players into the squad and assessing their readiness for competitive play.
The Blues' fourth-place finish last season secured them a spot in the Champions League. With Colwill having started 35 of Chelsea’s 38 Premier League games last season, his absence will be felt. However, Maresca remains optimistic about navigating these challenges with strategic adjustments.
As Chelsea gears up for another demanding season, integrating new talent while managing injuries will be key. The team's ability to adapt quickly could determine their success in both domestic and international competitions this year.
