Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor has announced that the team will be missing four key players for their upcoming Champions League match against Celtic on Wednesday. Millie Bright, Mayra Ramirez, Sjoeke Nusken, and Kadeisha Buchanan have not travelled to Scotland for the game at Celtic Park. Despite this, Chelsea aims to secure their place in the knockout stages with a win.
The decision to rest these players comes amid a busy schedule, with Chelsea facing three matches within seven days across all competitions. Bompastor explained that squad rotation is necessary to manage player fitness effectively. "The squad is in a good place and we have a good dynamic and we are full of confidence," she stated during a press conference.

Bompastor emphasised the importance of managing players individually due to the demanding schedule. "We have been playing a lot of games and this week we play three games so it's important to manage players as individuals," she said. The absence of Buchanan, Bright, Nusken, and Ramirez is part of this strategy.
Despite resting some key players, Chelsea remains confident in their ability to perform well. Under Bompastor's leadership, they have maintained a perfect record in all competitions, including victories over Real Madrid and Twente in the Champions League. The team has lost only one of their last 20 group stage matches (W14 D5) and is unbeaten in their last 14 (W11 D3).
Chelsea's early-season form has been impressive, placing them second in the Women's Super League and leading their Champions League group by at least three points. Bompastor reassured fans that despite resting players, Chelsea remains committed to competing on all fronts. "The Champions League is important and we have ambition and we want to make sure we finish first in the group," she said.
Bompastor highlighted that Chelsea's ambition extends beyond just progressing through the group stage. "We have ambitions and if we want to go for all the competitions then you need to beat every team," she noted. The focus remains on finishing first in their group before moving on to more critical matches starting in March.
As Chelsea prepares for their match against Celtic, they aim to continue their strong performance while managing player workload effectively. With strategic squad rotation and a focus on maintaining momentum, Bompastor's side looks forward to securing top position in their Champions League group.
