Cole Palmer, the 22-year-old English youngster, reached an extraordinary milestone in English football history with a spectacular display of football against Brighton. Palmer scored four goals just within the first of the match and the most interesting fact is all the goals came just within 20 minutes.
In a round 6 match of EPL 2024-25, Chelsea welcomed Brighton at Stamford Bridge in London in a Sunday evening match. As the match started Brighton took the lead from an early 7-minute goal by Georgini Rutter.

But just within 14 minutes, Palmer scored the equaliser and, within 10 minutes, took Chelsea to a 3-1 lead by scoring two more goals. The second goal from Palmer came from a penalty in the 28th minute and the third one in the 31st minute with a free-kick from outside the box. In the 34th minute, Brighton tried to make a comeback with a goal from Carlos Baleba, but Palmer struck again just within 7 minutes. With this goal, Palmer became the first-ever player in English football to score four goals in the first half.
With this feat, the former Man City lad also became the joint-most hat-trick scorer for Chelsea, along with Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, as they all scored three hat-tricks for the club.
After joining Chelsea from Man City, the English prodigy came into the limelight with his brilliant display of performance and became the centrepiece of Chelsea's game plan. Despite the lacklustre performance of his club in the last season, the Man City graduate managed to score 22 goals in EPL along with 11 assists. This season also, he has started from just where he left off. After today's match, his goal tally reached to six in six matches. Today’s achievement is not only a memorable moment for him or the English football, it is also evidence of the rise of a new superstar in this game.
Though Palmer is not the only player to achieve this feat in English football. Others also had achieved something similar but not in the first half. Sergio Aguero did the same twice in his EPL career. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Jermain Defoe also achieved the same feat, and for the latter, there were five goals.
After the victory over Brighton, Chelsea is now fourth on the point table with 13 points with four wins, one draw and one loss. With the current form of Palmer, Chelsea could hope for the title this season, which has remained elusive to them for a few years.
