Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata ready to prove critics wrong

New Delhi, Aug 12: Alvaro Morata has claimed he's prepared to demonstrate his critics wrong who are slaying him following his penalty miss in last weekend's Community Shield defeat.

Chelsea lost 4-1 in the penalty shoot-out after a full match 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the Community Shield tie at Wembley.

Morata made the appearance in the match in the 74th minute of the match when Michy Batshuayi was subbed off. However, the Chelsea attacker failed to make an impact in the match and even missed his crucial spot kick in the shootout to lose the match eventually.

Morata's record breaking transfer fee has come under the fire since then as many pundits questioned the player's capability.

However, Morata who is all set to make his official debut this Saturday against Burnley at Stamford Bridge suggested this kind of criticism will not discourage him and he's prepared for the upcoming season.

Morata said: "I admit it's a very big amount, but I have the personality to play quietly and go my way.

"I have had only two pre-season games, 15 competitive minutes and a missed penalty... and they're already killing me, so I know what's ahead.

"It is the price that must be paid for such a large transfer. And it's something that motivates me and makes me work harder every day. I know twice as many people are paying attention to me."

The former Real Madrid striker also suggested he has made a target of 20 goals this term however he is more focused on being part of another victorious team.

He added: "I wish I could put more than 20! It's my job.

"But it does not obsess me either in the sense that I change it by collective titles. For example, in Juve I did not score any more than 20 goals, and I won all the titles except the Champions League final.

"I have scored 15 or 16 goals and raised titles - and other forwards have made 35 and have not won anything.

"I want to score them, but a player can be remembered for other things in the game."
