Chelsea Women Showcase Efficiency To Secure Place In League Cup Final Against West Ham

Chelsea Women defeated West Ham 2-0 to reach the Women's League Cup final. Manager Sonia Bompastor highlighted the team's efficiency and focus on upcoming matches.

Chelsea's manager, Sonia Bompastor, expressed her satisfaction with the team's performance after they secured a 2-0 victory over West Ham, advancing to their sixth consecutive Women's League Cup final. This achievement marks Bompastor's first final as manager. Chelsea remains unbeaten this season, extending their streak to 22 matches and setting up a trip to Pride Park next month.

West Ham struggled against Chelsea's efficient attack, conceding two goals within nine minutes during the first half. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd opened the scoring at Kingsmeadow after 20 minutes, finding the net from a tight angle past Kinga Szemik. Shortly after, Sjoeke Nusken capitalised on Eva Nystrom's error near her own box, rounding Szemik to score into an empty net.

Chelsea Women Advance to League Cup Final

In the second half, Chelsea maintained control of the game by dominating possession and limiting West Ham's opportunities. Despite West Ham's efforts, they couldn't create significant chances and have yet to reach a League Cup final. Bompastor commented on the match: "I'm really pleased with the win, and now we are on our way to the final."

Bompastor acknowledged the importance of winning semi-finals and noted that West Ham approached this match differently compared to their previous encounter in January. She praised her team's clinical performance in front of goal: "We were leading 2-0 at half-time, and I think it was good enough." The ability to score against a compact defence made a significant difference.

Chelsea has consistently reached every League Cup final since the 2019-20 season but has not won any of the last three finals. This year presents an opportunity for Bompastor to secure her first trophy as manager. Chelsea will face either Arsenal or Manchester City in the final, with Arsenal having defeated them in the past two finals.

Focus on Upcoming Challenges

Chelsea is also competing for multiple titles this season. They lead the Women's Super League by seven points and advanced through their Champions League group with a perfect record. Additionally, they will face Everton in the Women's FA Cup fourth round on Sunday as they aim to continue their pursuit of success across all competitions.

Despite reaching another final, Bompastor remains focused on immediate challenges rather than potential trophies: "I never think like this [of winning the quadruple]. I'm more focused on the next game on Sunday." Her priority is ensuring Chelsea performs well in each competition by taking it one game at a time.

As Chelsea prepares for upcoming matches, Bompastor emphasises maintaining focus and creating opportunities for victory. The team aims to continue their strong form while keeping sight of their long-term goals throughout this demanding season.
