Chelsea Women's Super League Sets Record Unbeaten Run But Faces Title Race Challenges After Draw

Chelsea has achieved a record unbeaten run of 34 games in the Women's Super League but remains three points behind Manchester City in the title race after a draw with Liverpool. The Blues have struggled to secure wins recently, impacting their championship aspirations.

Chelsea's Women's Super League team extended their unbeaten streak to a record 34 matches, but they lost ground in the title race after a 1-1 draw with Liverpool. Starting the day four points behind Manchester City, who defeated Manchester United 3-0, Chelsea initially seemed poised to narrow the gap. Alyssa Thompson scored early, but Beata Olsson equalised for Liverpool in the 33rd minute.

Despite dominating possession, Chelsea couldn't secure a win. Aggie Beever-Jones had a goal disallowed for offside and later missed another opportunity. The draw leaves Chelsea three points behind City and four ahead of United. Arsenal and Tottenham are next in line, with their North London derby scheduled later that day.

Chelsea's Record Unbeaten Run in WSL Continues

The London City Lionesses are level on points with Tottenham, trailing only on goal difference after defeating Aston Villa 3-1. Saki Kumagai scored twice, and Isobel Goodwin added another for the Lionesses. Kirsty Hanson netted Villa's lone goal as they slipped to eighth place following Brighton's 4-1 victory over Leicester City.

Leicester set an unwanted record for the longest winless away run in WSL history, now at 21 games without a victory. This surpasses Yeovil Town's previous record of 20 matches from April 2017 to February 2019.

Chelsea's current unbeaten run began under Emma Hayes at the end of the 2023-24 season and spans the entire 2024-25 campaign. During this period, they have achieved 28 wins and six draws. However, recent draws have allowed Manchester City to take control of the title race.

In their latest match against Liverpool, Chelsea narrowly edged out in expected goals (xG) by 1.15 to 1.07 but managed only nine shots with one on target—their lowest in a WSL game this season.

West Ham's First Win

West Ham moved off the bottom of the table by defeating Everton 3-1 for their first win of the season. Anouk Denton, Amber Tysiak, and Shekiera Martinez scored for West Ham by the 54th minute. Katja Snoeijs' late goal was merely consolation for Everton as West Ham leapfrogged Liverpool in the standings.

Chelsea has set a new benchmark for unbeaten runs in WSL history by surpassing their previous record of 33 games without defeat from 2019 to 2021. Despite this achievement, recent performances have not been enough to maintain their lead in the title race.
