Chelsea's Women's Super League triumph feels surreal to Sonia Bompastor after they secured the title by defeating Manchester United. Chelsea needed just a draw against the Red Devils, thanks to Arsenal's earlier 5-2 loss to Aston Villa. Lucy Bronze's header sealed a 1-0 win at Leigh Sports Village, marking Chelsea's sixth consecutive WSL title and ninth overall.
Bompastor is the first manager since Laura Harvey's Arsenal in the inaugural WSL season to win the league in her debut campaign. Chelsea remains unbeaten this season, setting a new record with 20 consecutive games without a loss in a single WSL campaign. Taking over from Emma Hayes last season, Bompastor had significant expectations but is thrilled with her team's performance.

The Blues entered this match following their Champions League semi-final exit against Barcelona, losing 8-2 on aggregate. With this victory, they have reached 54 points in the league. Winning their final two matches against Tottenham and Liverpool could set a new record for points in a single WSL season, surpassing their own record of 58 points set in 2022-23.
Bompastor expressed her delight to Sky Sports: "It feels a bit unreal. I knew we had to fight until the end. For us to still be unbeaten and achieve what we just achieved is really good." She acknowledged the challenges of adapting as a new manager in a different country and league but credited her players and staff for their hard work.
Despite being newcomers, Bompastor emphasised that success wasn't easy for Chelsea. "For some people, they just think being Chelsea, it is really easy to achieve that. It's not," she stated. The team maintained the right mindset from the start of the season, which contributed significantly to their success.
Speaking to BBC Sport about her first season, Bompastor said: "I feel great. For my first season, it feels amazing." She expressed gratitude towards her players and club for their support and highlighted how pressure has made her a better manager.
Chelsea also has an FA Cup final against United on May 18 to anticipate. Bompastor feels at home with Chelsea and appreciates being part of such an esteemed club. She concluded by thanking her staff for their contributions: "I have to thank my staff because I am not the only one."
