Bengaluru, September 3: I-League side Chennai City FC have filled up their Asian quota with the signings of Kyrgyzstan international players Veniamin Shumeiko and Ildar Amirov for the 2017-18 season.

Shumeiko is a 28-year-old right-back who can also operate on the right wing earlier played for FC Alay in Kyrgyzstan and has won four national leagues whereas Striker Amirov who experienced a short frustrating time with Kolkata giants East Bengal last played for FC Alga Bishkek in his country.

In I-League a team can sign all total six players and two of them has to be from Asia and with these two signings Chennai City FC ultimately closed down their full portion of Asian recruitments.

They had also earlier this month declared the signing of two international players, midfielder Baafi Jackson from Ghana and Nigeria forward Michael Lucky Kelechukwu, on a one-year contract.

While speaking about the new signings, Owner Rohit Ramesh was elated to unveil the players and recommended that the new inclusion will improve their squad further.

"Both the players are experienced and Amirov had a light stint with East Bengal last season which is an onus for us. We had taken our time to explore the opportunities for the players. Veniamin will also give us some solidity in the back. We are very happy with the recruits and are hopeful that the local youngsters will draw from their experience to better themselves," he told TOI.

Coach V Sundararajan also sounded happy with his Asian quota's signing and claimed that although it is difficult for him to strengthen the squad massively as most of the star players have opted to play for Cash rich Indian Super League (ISL), however, he is ready for the challenge and already working on to build the team from the start.

"Most of the players we had last season has left for ISL. So, we are building our team from the scratch. I have a few interesting players in mind specially from Karnataka and Kerala and I am planning to have them train with the squad in Ooty. I have my sights on players like Railways' PC Riju and Charles. Let us see what happens," the coach said.
