Chennai, August 25: Chennaiyin FC has strengthened its defensive lineup by acquiring the services of Sarthak Golui ahead of their highly anticipated Durand Cup 2023 quarter-final match against FC Goa. The match is set to take place at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday.
Golui, hailing from Kolkata, has joined Marina Machans on loan from East Bengal FC. This new addition will provide depth and stability to Chennaiyin's squad as they gear up for the upcoming 2023-24 season.

Having previously been a part of Mumbai City FC's victorious Hero ISL campaign in 2021 and representing the national team on four occasions, Golui brings valuable experience to his new team.
Not only is he known for his defensive prowess, but he has also showcased his attacking abilities with four goals and seven assists in his professional career spanning over 80 matches.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Chennaiyin FC, Golui said, "I am thrilled to embark on this new journey with Chennaiyin FC. I feel privileged and proud to be a part of this family. I eagerly look forward to meeting my new teammates and everyone involved with the team as we strive for an exceptional season."
After finishing at the top of their group stage matches undefeated, Chennaiyin FC aims to continue their dominant performance against fellow ISL club FC Goa in the Durand Cup quarter-finals. Out of all participating teams in Durand Cup 2023, only two have managed to secure victories in all three group stage matches - one being Chennaiyin.
The team has displayed impressive attacking capabilities throughout the tournament thus far, scoring a total of eight goals during the group stage matches. Top goal scorers include Rafael Crivellaro, Jordan Murray, Connor Shields, Vincy Barretto, Rahim Ali, and Farukh Choudhary.
Chennaiyin FC's defense has also proven to be formidable, conceding only two goals in three matches. This solid defensive performance makes them a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming knockout match.
The 132nd edition of Asia's oldest football competition has witnessed the participation of 24 teams from ISL, I-League, and the Armed Forces. These teams were divided into six groups of four teams each. The top team from each group and the two best second-placed teams across all groups have qualified for the quarter-finals.
