Chennaiyin FC aims to build on its first win of the campaign when they host unbeaten FC Goa in the Indian Super League 2026 on Sunday. The match will be their first home fixture, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai, on March 21, 2026.
Summer signing Imran Khan scored his first goal for Chennaiyin in a 1-0 victory over rivals Kerala. Head coach Clifford Rayes Miranda wants that momentum to continue against fourth-placed Goa. He underlined the challenge of facing a side yet to lose this season.

Miranda said the focus will be on collective defending, not individual marking. "I won't give away the plan, but we try to stop the opponent as a team and as a group," he said. He added that man-marking is not usually part of Chennaiyin's style.
The coach highlighted work on structure and attacking clarity in training. He said they are seeking consistency in positions in the final third. Miranda felt the team creates chances but must be more dominant. He also wants players to be calmer on the ball in key areas.
Sunday’s clash marks Chennaiyin’s first game this season in front of home fans. They played their opening four matches away, taking one win and one draw. Miranda called the upcoming five-match home run vital, stressing they must use those four remaining games well.
Miranda said home support is crucial to Chennaiyin’s push for points. "We need the ground, we need the home advantage. We need our people. We need the fans to be there to support us," he said, underlining the link between stands and performance.
Forward Daniel Chima Chukwu joined Miranda at the press conference. His late goal earned a 2-2 draw in this fixture last season. Chima said he feels good and is ready to help. He described waiting for visa approvals as difficult while watching the team from home.
Miranda rated screening midfielder Mohammed Ali Bemammer a 50-50 doubt. Apart from Ali, he expects the full squad to be available. Chennaiyin will seek another win against FC Goa, who hold the upper hand historically, but arrive in Chennai facing a team boosted by confidence.
