The South Americans made a good build-up in the game and their first reward came in the 20th minute when Eduardo Vargas ran through the Spanish defence to fool Iker Casillas, the goalkeeper, to score.
The second Chilean strike came in the 43rd minute when Casillas punched a free-kick from Alexis Sanchez unconvincingly and Charles Aranguiz made the full use of the captain's untidy work with a toe push.
Casillas, who played his 156th match today, surpassed compatriot Andoni Zubizaretta in terms of the most number of World Cup appearances (17).
