Christian Norgaard Realises Childhood Dream By Signing With Arsenal From Brentford

Christian Norgaard has joined Arsenal from Brentford on a two-year deal worth £10m. The midfielder expresses joy in fulfilling his childhood dream of playing in the Champions League.

Christian Norgaard has realised a childhood ambition by joining Arsenal from Brentford. The Danish midfielder has signed a two-year contract, with an option for an additional year. The deal is reportedly valued at £10 million, plus £5 million in add-ons. Norgaard joined Brentford in May 2019 and played 196 matches across all competitions, contributing 13 goals and 18 assists.

During his time at Brentford, Norgaard was instrumental in the team's historic promotion to the Premier League in May 2021. He even scored in their first Premier League match, a 2-0 win against Arsenal. Reflecting on his move, Norgaard shared with the Arsenal website, "You can get almost emotional because maybe it was a dream that I've given a little bit up on coming towards the later stage in my career."

Mikel Arteta praised Norgaard's qualities, highlighting his leadership skills and strong character as assets to Arsenal's squad. Arteta described him as a versatile midfielder with tactical awareness and physical presence. "He is an international player with a wealth of experience of the Premier League," Arteta noted, adding that Norgaard will bring depth and balance to the team.

Norgaard's performance last season was impressive. In 34 league appearances, he completed 1,153 of his 1,394 passes. Only Nathan Collins surpassed him with more completions for Brentford at 1,693. Additionally, Norgaard made 79 tackles, second only to Mikkel Damsgaard within the team.

Norgaard is Arsenal's third signing this transfer window after Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi. The club is reportedly pursuing deals for Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP as well. These moves indicate Arsenal's intent to strengthen their squad further.

At age 31, Norgaard expressed his surprise and joy at joining a club like Arsenal. He had recently renewed his contract with Brentford but acknowledged that playing in the Champions League seemed unlikely there. "Of course, there's always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford," he said.

Norgaard added that hearing the Champions League anthem and participating in such a campaign is something he never thought possible but is thrilled about now. "It's a childhood dream and something I didn't think would be possible," he stated.

As Norgaard embarks on this new chapter with Arsenal, both he and the club are eager to see how his skills will contribute to their ambitions on both domestic and European fronts.
