Christian Pulisic Could Be Salah Replacement, Says Liverpool Legend Robbie Fowler
Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler suggests Christian Pulisic should be on Liverpool’s shortlist to succeed Mohamed Salah this summer. Salah is leaving as a free agent after nine seasons, while Pulisic is delivering strong numbers for AC Milan. Fowler believes Liverpool’s next wide forward could follow a similar pathway to Salah’s route into elite form.
Fowler set out the idea on X, outlining why Pulisic might suit Liverpool’s attack and current squad profile. Fowler wrote on his X account: Plenty of rumours about as to whos going to Liverpool, one name Ive not seen mentioned is Pulisic.
Good age, played in the prem, exciting player, Id take him, potentially a Salah type of pathway, thoughts?
Salah departs after transforming Liverpool’s forward line, leaving a major gap on the right wing. Across 442 matches, Salah scores 257 goals and supplies 120 assists. Those contributions helped Liverpool secure two Premier League titles and a Champions League crown, among other trophies. Any successor, including Pulisic, must handle high expectations from supporters and within the squad.
Pulisic offers previous Premier League experience, which may appeal to Liverpool’s recruitment staff. During four seasons at Chelsea, Pulisic recorded 20 Premier League goals and nine assists in 98 appearances. Pulisic also lifted the Champions League trophy in 2021 with Chelsea, before joining AC Milan in 2023. That background shows exposure to high-pressure fixtures and title pursuits.
Since arriving at Milan, Pulisic has produced consistent attacking output in Serie A and Europe. Pulisic has played 134 matches for Milan in all competitions, scoring 42 goals and providing 24 assists. That makes 66 direct goal contributions. In Serie A alone, only Lautaro Martinez with 65 and Marcus Thuram with 57 have more direct goal involvements than Pulisic’s 52.
Those statistics underline why Fowler views Pulisic as a realistic option for Liverpool’s wide role. Liverpool now need to judge whether Pulisic’s age, experience and productivity match the club’s plans after Salah’s exit. The decision rests with Liverpool’s hierarchy, who must balance profile, cost and tactical fit when choosing the next long-term right-sided forward.
