Churchill Brothers may lose Rs 9 lakh sponsorship

Panaji, Jan 7: The Churchill Brothers, may be facing the same fate as Tiger Woods, as a leading sponsor has decided to review the ties with the Goan football club after the SpiceJet episode.

Kunnath Pharmaceutical, a leading aphrodisiac manufacturer, is mulling over the reconsidering its huge Rs 9 crore sponsorship, after the mid-air transgressions of the players came to light on Wednesday, Jan 7.

"I will be travelling to Goa along with my team to meet Churchill Alemao (chief patron of Churchill Brothers). I want to personally verify the facts, which have been reported in the media," K C Abraham, managing director of Kerala-based company is quoted as saying in a news agency report.

The meeting has been scheduled for 3 pm on Thursday, Jan 7.

Three of the team members including two Nigerians and the goalkeeper were on Wednesday, Jan 6 booked for molesting an airhostess and misbehaving with the cabin crew of SpiceJet plane, they were flying to Kolkata in.

The incident took place on Tuesday, Jan 5 and came to light when all the 23-members of the club were deplaned at the Mumbai airport mid way.

Kunnath Pharmaceuticals manufactures Musli Power Xtra, an ayurvedic aphrodisiac signed a sponsorship deal with the football club in Sep 2009.

Following this deal, Churchill Brothers was christened Musli Power - Churchill Brothers.

This is similar to the case of Tiger Woods, whose recent controversy over his multiple extra-marital affairs has led to brands like Accenture, Gillette, and AT&T severing ties with him.
