Andrée Jeglertz has urged Manchester City to stay alert for the Women's Super League derby with Manchester United, warning that the match could swing in many directions despite City's strong position in the title race and the eight-point gap to United with four league fixtures still remaining this season.
City sit top of the WSL and chase a first league crown since 2016, while United hold second place by one point ahead of Chelsea. A home win on Saturday would move City much closer to securing the trophy and would also strike a major blow to United's slim championship hopes.

City enter the Manchester City vs Manchester United derby with a clear edge in recent meetings. In 12 WSL clashes, City have beaten United six times, drawn four and lost only two. City also won 3-0 at Old Trafford earlier this season, and could complete a second league double over United after the 2023-24 campaign.
Jeglertz stressed that past records and table positions can fade quickly in derby conditions. "These games live their own lives, Jeglertz said. Aderby in this city is always going to get 100% energised players from both teams, fromthe beginning. It almost doesn't matter what tempo you start, as [your] opponent will be ready. These games aren't determined by 15, 20 minutes. Definitely, the longer the game goes on, it can be a challenge, but it's how the game turns out and what happens."
The Swede expects the Manchester City vs Manchester United derby to start at full throttle. Jeglertz added: "Definitely in the beginning, both teams will be 100% focused and energised, they really want to get three points in this game. I don't think we can use that at the beginning of the game." City arrive after a 5-2 victory over Tottenham, which underlined their attacking rhythm.
United have rarely dominated this fixture, yet current league form is strong before the Manchester City vs Manchester United derby. Only Arsenal, with an 11-match unbeaten run, are ahead of United's nine-game sequence without defeat in the WSL, a stretch of six wins and three draws that began after November's loss to City.
Marc Skinner must again plan without midfielder Ella Toone for the Manchester City vs Manchester United derby, as Toone continues rehabilitation from a hip injury that has ruled Toone out since December. Speaking about Toone's schedule, Skinner said: "The plan is, hopefully, the game after the international break [against Spurs], Skinner said of Toone. [That] is the aim for her, should everything go well. She's training on the field, she's doing individual bits, she'll hopefully be back with more team bits soon enough, so the aim is, and the hope is, that we can get her back for after the next international window."
With City close to a long-awaited league title and United defending a lengthy unbeaten league sequence, the Manchester City vs Manchester United derby carries major implications for the WSL table, yet both coaches underline that derby intensity and small details on matchday could outweigh statistics when the rivals meet.
