Gianni Infantino Claims FIFA Club World Cup Is Most Successful Club Competition Worldwide

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has proclaimed the Club World Cup as the most successful club competition globally, citing $2 billion in revenue despite some criticism regarding attendance and weather conditions during the tournament.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has hailed the Club World Cup as the top club competition globally, despite facing some criticism. The newly revamped 32-team tournament concluded with Paris Saint-Germain facing Chelsea in the final at MetLife Stadium. Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp criticised it as a poor idea, while players like Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez complained about the weather conditions in the United States.

The BBC reported that over a million seats remained empty during the tournament, with many matches experiencing low attendance. However, Infantino remains firm in his belief that the Club World Cup has been successful, asserting it generated $2 billion (1.5bn) in revenue. He stated, "It's already the most successful club competition in the world with all different measurements."

Infantino Declares Club World Cup a Success

Speaking at Trump Tower, Infantino expressed confidence in the tournament's success. He said, "The golden era of global club football has started. We can say definitely that this FIFA Club World Cup has been a huge, huge, huge success." He acknowledged both positive and negative feedback but emphasised its achievements.

Infantino highlighted that over 2.5 million people attended the matches, averaging around 40,000 spectators per game. He noted that no league worldwide, except for the Premier League with home teams, achieves such numbers in neutral stadiums.

Financially, Infantino addressed concerns by revealing that the competition generated over $2 billion in revenues. He stated they earned an average of $33 million per match. According to him, "There is no other cup competition in the world that comes close to $33m per match."

Despite criticisms regarding attendance and weather conditions, Infantino remains optimistic about the future of this tournament. His remarks underline his commitment to making it a staple event in global football.
