Cody Gakpo Feels More Dangerous For Liverpool After Transition To Left-Wing Role Under Arne Slot

Cody Gakpo has embraced his left-wing position under manager Arne Slot, enhancing his performance and contributing to Liverpool's strong start this season. With eight goal contributions already, he aims to leverage his skills for the team's success.

Cody Gakpo feels his return to the left-wing position under Liverpool's new manager, Arne Slot, has made him a more effective player. Since joining Liverpool in January 2023, Gakpo was often used as a central striker by Jurgen Klopp. However, this season he has thrived on the left wing, contributing eight goals and assists in 17 matches.

Gakpo expressed his satisfaction with the change, stating that playing on the left wing feels familiar and comfortable. "Before I came to Liverpool I also played as a left-winger," he said. He added that Slot encouraged him to focus on this role due to strong competition within the team. This shift has allowed Gakpo to showcase his skills effectively.

Gakpo Thrives in Left-Wing Role at Liverpool

Liverpool have started the season strongly, leading both the Premier League and Champions League tables before the November international break. Under Slot's guidance, they have secured 28 points from 11 league matches, matching Guus Hiddink's record at Chelsea for most points by a manager in their first 11 games.

Gakpo's recent performances include scoring four goals in his last four appearances. His contributions helped Liverpool reach the EFL Cup quarter-finals with a brace against Brighton. Gakpo believes his ability to engage in one-on-one situations and deliver crosses or shots is crucial for the team's success.

Reflecting on his dual nature on and off the pitch, Gakpo said: "When I'm on the pitch, [I'm] really there to win the game." He emphasised that while he is competitive during matches, outside of football he focuses on personal growth and relationships with family and friends.

Liverpool remain unbeaten in this season's Champions League campaign and are defending their EFL Cup title. Gakpo played a role in last year's victory over Chelsea in that competition's final. He is eager for Liverpool's fighting spirit to lead them to further achievements.

Gakpo appreciates fans' support and aims to perform well for them and his teammates. "Out there, [I'm] just trying to do my best for the club," he stated. Once matches end, he returns to his usual self, balancing competitiveness with personal life priorities.

Slot's management style has been instrumental in Liverpool's impressive form this season. The team remains focused on maintaining their momentum across all competitions as they aim for more silverware under Slot's leadership.
