Cole Palmer faced criticism from Gary Neville following a conversation with Pep Guardiola after Chelsea's 3-1 loss to Manchester City. Chelsea had an opportunity to strengthen their Champions League position but fell short. Noni Madueke scored early due to an Abdukodir Khusanov error, but goals from Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden secured City's victory.
Despite a strong start under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea has struggled recently, failing to win in four consecutive away matches. Palmer's performance was notably subdued; he attempted only one shot with a low expected goal value and created just one chance, despite making the most passes in the final third for his team.

Palmer was seen conversing with Guardiola post-match, which Neville suggested might have upset Chelsea fans. "I want to say something about Cole Palmer," Neville remarked on Sky Sports. "He was talking to Pep Guardiola on the pitch right at the end of the game and he was smiling with him, Guardiola does that."
Neville expressed concern over Palmer's interaction with his former manager. "Cole, you're being played here," he said. "You didn't do enough out on that pitch in the second half." He noted that while Palmer is a talented player, Chelsea supporters expected more from him.
Neville highlighted that the travelling Chelsea fans were likely disappointed by Palmer's actions. "They don't really want to see you conversing with your opposition manager and smiling at the end of the game," he stated. He acknowledged Guardiola's influence but felt it was inappropriate given the match outcome.
The former Manchester United player understood why Guardiola engaged with Palmer but felt it wasn't suitable for Palmer after such a defeat. "There's something about it I didn't feel was right from Cole Palmer's perspective," Neville added.
Palmer's interaction with Guardiola raised questions about his focus and commitment during challenging matches. Despite understanding Guardiola’s intentions, Neville believed Palmer should have shown more restraint after a disappointing performance.
