Cole Palmer Doubtful For Chelsea's Upcoming Clash Against Wolves Due To Ankle Injury

Cole Palmer's participation in Chelsea's upcoming match against Wolves on Monday is uncertain, according to head coach Enzo Maresca. Palmer, who has been Chelsea's leading scorer in the Premier League this season with 14 goals, trails only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, and Alexander Isak. His impressive performance since joining from Manchester City in September 2023 includes 36 goals and 17 assists in his first 50 league starts.

Palmer's absence from training on Friday raises concerns after he sustained an ankle injury during the recent 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. Other players missing from the session included Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, and Levi Colwill. Maresca mentioned these absences during a pre-match press conference, highlighting that several players are doubtful for Monday's game due to injuries from the previous match.

Cole Palmer Injury Doubt Ahead of Wolves Match

Maresca explained, "We were without Cole today; he was not in the session. Levi was also not in the session today, Enzo wasn't in the session today, Romeo wasn't in the session today. So, we have three or four players who are doubts for Monday's game because of the last game." He further elaborated on Palmer's situation: "Cole had a kick in the ankle in the first half [against Bournemouth]. He didn't train today, and we don't know if he'll train tomorrow or in two days."

Despite these uncertainties, Trevoh Chalobah is available for selection after being recalled from his loan at Crystal Palace earlier this week. Maresca stated that recalling Chalobah was straightforward due to familiarity with him and his potential contribution to the team amidst current injuries.

Palmer has been instrumental for Chelsea this season, becoming the first player since Eden Hazard to achieve 20 or more goal contributions in consecutive Premier League seasons. His availability against Wolves remains unclear as Chelsea navigates through injury challenges.

The decision to bring Chalobah back was influenced by current squad needs. Maresca noted, "It was quite an easy process [to recall Chalobah]. We have a few injuries, as you know, so we were looking for a solution. We thought the best solution would be to call back Trevoh. Firstly, because we know him very well and secondly because we know he can help us."

Chelsea faces significant challenges with key players potentially missing their next match due to injuries sustained recently. The team will need to adapt quickly as they prepare for their encounter with Wolves on Monday night.
