Colombia Dominates Australia 3-0 As Rodriguez And Diaz Shine In Second Half

In a friendly match, Colombia defeated Australia 3-0, highlighted by James Rodriguez's penalty and goals from Luis Diaz and Jefferson Lerma in the final minutes.

Colombia secured a decisive 3-0 win against Australia in a friendly match, thanks to goals from James Rodriguez, Luis Diaz, and Jefferson Lerma. The game seemed destined for a draw until Rodriguez converted a penalty in the 76th minute after Callum Elder fouled Santiago Arias. This opened the scoring floodgates at Citi Field.

Colombia started aggressively, with Paul Izzo making a crucial save to deny Diaz early on. The Bayern Munich forward nearly scored again before halftime. After the break, Izzo tipped Johan Mojica's shot over the bar, but Colombia's pressure eventually paid off as time ran out. A foul by Elder and Cameron Burgess on Arias led to Rodriguez scoring his 31st international goal from the spot.

Colombia Beats Australia 3-0 in Friendly Match

Camilo Vargas' long ball caused confusion in Australia's defence just before full-time, allowing Diaz to score easily. In stoppage time, Rodriguez delivered a corner that Lerma converted after his initial header was saved by Izzo. This marked Colombia's comprehensive victory.

Diaz continued his excellent form from Germany, where he had 16 goal involvements in 17 matches. Against Australia, he led his team with six shots, ten touches in the opponent's box, five successful dribbles, and 13 total duels. His performance was complemented by Rodriguez's experience.

Rodriguez created five chances and completed 39 passes in the final third. He also delivered eight crosses and regained possession five times, more than any other Colombian player under Nestor Lorenzo's management.

For Australia, conceding three goals in the last 15 minutes of an international match was unprecedented since their 3-1 loss to Japan in April 1968.
