Conceicao Commends AC Milan Players For Staying Focused After Coppa Italia Triumph

Sergio Conceicao commended his AC Milan squad for maintaining their focus following their Coppa Italia win against Inter. On Sunday, they secured a 2-0 victory over Venezia in Serie A. This win came after Milan's 3-0 triumph in the domestic cup semi-final against Inter, setting up a final clash with Bologna. Despite a challenging Serie A season, Milan's hopes for European qualification remain alive.

Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez were instrumental in the victory at Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo. Conceicao acknowledged the difficulty of staying concentrated post-derby, stating to DAZN, "It wasn't easy after the derby to have the concentration that we have lacked in recent months." He emphasised the importance of competitive focus and noted the unique experience of playing in Venice.

Conceicao highlighted the challenges posed by Venezia, describing them as a team with quality and fast players. He remarked on the special atmosphere of arriving by boat to play there. Winning was crucial to solidify their semi-final success. Gimenez, who joined from Feyenoord in February, scored Milan's second goal off the bench after a promising start to his career at the club.

The Mexican forward had initially impressed by scoring three goals in his first four matches but had struggled since then. Conceicao expressed hope that this goal would boost Gimenez's confidence and performance. "He's aware that he is not at his best," said Conceicao about Gimenez's form.

Conceicao believes Gimenez can reach greater heights if he focuses on team dynamics both with and without the ball. "He told me immediately afterwards that the game had not gone well but the goal was important," Conceicao stated. The coach is confident that Gimenez will find his scoring touch again due to his known abilities within the group.

Milan currently sits ninth in Serie A standings, with Conceicao's future at the club under constant speculation. However, he remains focused on Milan rather than personal concerns. "Conceicao is not important right now, Milan is important," he said, highlighting his dedication to working tirelessly with his staff despite recent losses.

The coach hinted at potential future plans but remains committed for now. "In a month or so, I too will say what I want," he mentioned, adding humorously about possibly taking an extended holiday in Portugal someday.
