
Bengaluru, September 10: The recent International break of the World Cup qualifier has now given a lot more new teams who have booked their places in next year's world cup in Russia.
Total Eight teams, Russia, Brazil, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Belgium, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia have as of now booked their places in next year's gala event.
However, there are a lot of big teams from all over the world who are currently in danger to lose out on the final spot but most notably the competition in the CONMEBOL (Latin American Qualifier) has been standout to watch out for.
Below are the two teams that are currently facing crisis situation at the moment and fighting against the odds to make it into the next round.
Argentina
Among the big names, the most notable on the list is Argentina who is facing a risk of getting eliminated from World Cup. The Argentine team have changed their manager twice during the qualifiers, however, are yet to produce a comprehensive performance.
They have now averaged just one goal per game over 16 matches and in this international break only managed to get two points from two draws against Uruguay and Venezuela to make it 24 points. They currently lie in the fifth position which is a playoff spot and will face Peru in the next match who are just above them.
The Peru match might decide their fate and after that, they will be facing Ecuador who is at the 8th position with 20 points.
Chile
Chile came back from this international break with two defeats to their name and without a single goal scored. They lost 1-0 to Bolivia and 3-0 at home to Paraguay. The Latin American side and Manager Juan Antonio Pizzi is currently under severe pressure who were at some point earlier were just on the verge of qualifying.
But they currently occupy sixth in the list, just one point below Argentina and to make it direct qualification or to playoffs, they have to up their position in the next two games which are Ecuador at Home and an away trip to Brazil.
Meanwhile, from the CONMEBOL group, Brazil have already qualified for the World Cup and stand still in the top of the group with 37 points after 16 matches whereas Uruguay and Colombia are also on the brink of the qualification as both them currently at the 27 and 26 points respectively having played the same match.
But from the fourth position to eighth, from 24 points to 20 points, any team can qualify from the group for the two places and it will be now interesting to see which teams finally make the cut into the next year's tournament.
