Antonio Conte expressed his frustration over the lack of VAR intervention during a penalty decision in the 1-1 draw between Napoli and Inter. Hakan Calhanoglu missed a late penalty after scoring earlier to level the match following Scott McTominay's goal. Conte criticised VAR for not overturning the referee's call against Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa for fouling Denzel Dumfries, questioning its purpose if it doesn't correct clear errors.
Despite his disappointment with the officiating, Conte praised his team's resilience against Napoli's strong second-half performance. "I said that we would not come here to just be sparring partners against the strongest squad in Serie A, so it was important for us to face them with strength, character, accepting duels all over the field," he stated. He acknowledged their progress and hard work, noting their unbeaten record at San Siro and against Juventus.
Conte questioned whether VAR is only used selectively, emphasising its role in correcting mistakes or highlighting unseen situations for referees. He argued that if a clear error exists, VAR should intervene. "If there is an error, it has to intervene. It really angers me, but it does to all coaches," he remarked. He was particularly upset that referee Maurizio Mariani's decision stood without review.Napoli's draw allowed them to maintain their position at the top of Serie A before the international break, accumulating 26 points in a competitive title race. Meanwhile, Conte's team remains one point ahead of Atalanta, Fiorentina, Inter, and Lazio.

The match highlighted both teams' strengths and areas needing improvement as they navigate a challenging season. With Napoli leading Serie A and Conte's side closely trailing several teams, the competition promises intense battles ahead.
