Antonio Conte has urged Napoli to maintain realistic expectations for the 2024-25 Serie A season as the club undergoes a period of reconstruction. Conte, who took over in June after Napoli cycled through three coaches last season, emphasised the need for patience from both the club and its fans.
"Our mantra is to give 200%, we have to go beyond our limits, all of us, because it is a critical moment for Napoli," Conte told reporters ahead of Napoli's opening game against Verona on Sunday. "The president spoke of reconstruction, and I agree with him perfectly; there is a need for a total reconstruction, from the ground up."

Conte highlighted that the squad's significant changes indicate an ongoing rebuilding phase. "A squad that puts 10-12 players on the market means that there is a reconstruction underway and like any reconstruction we need patience and humility," he added.
Reflecting on his past successes, Conte noted that when he took charge at Juventus in 2011, they had finished seventh the previous season. He led them to three consecutive league titles but does not expect such rapid success at Napoli. "I expected a better situation, positive surprises," he said. "But you arrive and there are nine-10 exits."
Conte acknowledged that while Napoli isn't starting from scratch, they are close to it. "We are not saying that we are at year zero but at the year very close to zero," he explained. "It doesn't scare me but it's better to be clear; when there is reality and clarity you know where to go and what problems to face."
Conte declined to comment on Victor Osimhen's situation, who is expected to be left out of the squad for Verona. The Nigerian forward is likely to leave during this transfer window. Conte warned that it would take time for Napoli to regain their competitive edge.
"I don't know how long it will take for Napoli to become competitive again, whether it takes six months, 12, two years, I couldn't say," Conte stated.
Napoli's journey under Conte begins with cautious optimism as they aim to rebuild and return stronger in Serie A.
