De Bruyne Highlights Differences Between Conte's Structured Tactics And Guardiola's Focus On Ball Control

Kevin De Bruyne contrasts Antonio Conte's structured approach with Pep Guardiola's emphasis on possession. The midfielder reflects on his transition to Napoli and the unique styles of both coaches.

Kevin De Bruyne has shared insights into the contrasting coaching styles of Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola. After eight years with Guardiola at Manchester City, where he achieved significant success, De Bruyne is now experiencing a new approach under Conte at Napoli. The Belgian midfielder highlighted that Conte's methods are more structured and mentality-focused compared to Guardiola's emphasis on ball control and possession.

De Bruyne's time at Manchester City was marked by remarkable achievements. He contributed significantly to the team's success, winning six Premier League titles and playing a crucial role in their first Champions League victory in 2023. During his tenure, he amassed 119 assists in the Premier League, second only to Ryan Giggs' 162, and scored 72 goals in 288 appearances.

De Bruyne Compares Conte and Guardiola Tactics

In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, De Bruyne elaborated on the differences between his former and current coaches. "I'd say they're two different ways of playing: Pep is probably a little more focused on ball control and possession, while Conte is a little more structured in his game and focuses a lot on mentality," he explained. Despite these differences, De Bruyne acknowledged that each coach has unique principles and characteristics.

Now at Napoli, De Bruyne joins other summer signings like Noa Lang and Sam Beukema. However, none have received as enthusiastic a reception as De Bruyne. Upon his arrival in Italy, fans affectionately dubbed him "the king." Despite this adulation, De Bruyne remains humble about his status among supporters.

"I'm not the king; I'm just a footballer," De Bruyne stated modestly. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome but emphasized his focus on performing well for the team. "I don't pay much attention to certain things. I try to do my job as best I can, but obviously, it's nice to be appreciated," he added.

The transition from Manchester City to Napoli presents new challenges for De Bruyne as he adapts to Serie A's style of play under Conte's guidance. His experience with different coaching philosophies will likely enrich his career further as he aims to continue delivering top performances for his new club.
