Copa America 2024: Brazil replace Ederson, Name Three New Players to Squad

Brazil has made a small revamp in their squad for the upcoming Copa America 2024, as four new faces have come into the side, while Ederson, their star goalkeeper, has been replaced.

Brazil's national football team coach Dorival had to make a quick adjustment to his squad for the upcoming Copa America, following an injury to Ederson. The Manchester City goalkeeper suffered a fracture on his eye socket after a collision with Tottenham's Cristian Romero in a Premier League match, ruling him out of the tournament. This led to an immediate call-up for Sao Paolo's Rafael to take his place.

In an interesting turn of events, the South American football governing body CONBEMOL announced an increase in squad size for the Copa America. Teams can now select up to 26 players, a rise from the previous cap of 23.

Three new Players added to Brazil Squad

This change allowed Dorival Junior the opportunity to bolster his team further and he added three more players. Juventus defender Bremer, Atalanta midfielder Ederson, and Porto forward Pepe are the inclusions to the Brazil squad for Copa America 2024.

The injury to Ederson came at a crucial time, following a heavy on-field collision with Cristian Romero against Tottenham. This incident not only sidelined Ederson for the remainder of Manchester City's league season but also reshaped Brazil's lineup for the Copa America. Despite this setback, Brazil's squad remains a strong one. The initial 23-man squad, announced earlier in May, did not feature Casemiro, Richarlison, or Gabriel Jesus, and neither of them find place in the extended team.

Brazil, a powerhouse in international football with nine Copa America titles to their name, is set to start their campaign in Group D. Their first match is against Costa Rica on June 24, marking the beginning of their journey in the CONMEBOL Copa America 2024.
