Copa America 2024 Final: Argentina or Colombia - Which Team Has Won South American Football Championship Most?

The 48th edition of South American Football Championship - Copa America 2024 is set for a title showdown as Argentina face Colombia in the final on Sunday (July 14) at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi fired Argentina into the final following a 2-0 win over Canada in the first semi-final. La Seleccion, who topped their group after a perfect record, needed extra time and penalties to get past the quarter-final round in their only draw so far in the tournament.

Argentina and Colombia Copa America record ahead of Copa America 2024 Final

Colombia, on the other hand, rode on Jefferson Lerma’s strike to edge past Uruguay in the other semi-final to reach the Copa America 2024 final. La Tricolor topped their group that also included Brazil with one draw and two wins. They, however, hammered Panama 5-0 in the quarter-finals.

How many times has Colombia won the Copa America title so far?

Colombia has won the South American Football Championship only once so far, having won the 2001 edition after a narrow 1-0 victory over Mexico. They finished runners up in the 1975 edition and also have 5 third-place finishes to their name in 1987, 1993, 1995, 2016 and 2021.

How many times has Argentina won the Copa America title so far?

Argentina has won the South American Football Championship a joint record 15 times so far, winning the title in 1921, 1925, 1927, 1929, 1937, 1941, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1991, 1993, 2021.

The La Albiceleste also finished runners up in 1916, 1917, 1920, 1923, 1924, 1926, 1935, 1942, 1959, 1967, 2004, 2007, 2015 and 2016 editions. They also secured third-place finishes in 1919, 1956, 1963, 1989 and 2019 editions.

Which Team Has Won South American Football Championship Title Most?

As mentioned earlier, Argentina are the joint record champions along with Uruguay, who have also won the Copa Americas 15 times each in the past 48 editions. Brazil is the next most successful team, having lifted the title 9 times.

Paraguay, Chile and Peru have gone on to lift the title twice each, while Colombia and Bolovia have won the title once in the previous editions. Mexico is the only team to reach as far as the final and not win the title, finishing runners in two editions.
