Argentina progressed to the semifinals of the Copa America 2024 after a thrilling victory over Ecuador in the quarterfinals.
Argentina completed the group stages with a fantastic performance but were put under a stern challenge by Ecuador. After the regulation 90 minutes, the match ended 1-1 and went straight into penalties.

Emiliano Martinez made a couple of superb saves to take Los Albicelestes in the last four with a 4-2 scoreline in the tie-breaker. Incidentally, Lionel Messi missed a penalty from the spot.
Argentina started off their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Canada. Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez scored the goals for them. They won the next matches against Chile (1-0) and Peru (2-0) - with all three goals coming from Lautaro Martinez.
Los Albicelestes are the defending Copa America champions and will be eying to replicate the feat of last time. Lionel Messi and his troops will have the objective in mind to win consecutive Copa America titles, a feat they last did in 1993.
Argentina will play their next Copa America 2024 match on Tuesday (July 9) in the semifinal stage of the tournament.
Argentina will take on Canada in the semis, who beat Venezuela in the quarterfinals.
The Argentina vs Ecuador match will be played at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The match will start at 8 pm ET on Tuesday.
Lionel Messi sufferedtre a groin problem and was left out in Argentina's last group stage match against Peru. The 36-year-old was given a breather for recovery and though there were doubts, he was back in the starting lineup against Ecuador. It was not the most influential game for Messi, who also missed from the spot during the penalties. Messi is certain to start for Argentina if no fresh setback takes place.
