In the first semi-final of this year's Copa America, it will be a rematch of the tournament opener. Both teams will be determined to progress but Canada can become the second CONCACAF team to reach the competition's final if they manage to win the match.

They will face the reigning champions Argentina on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium. Both teams advanced to the semi-finals via penalty shootouts, with La Albiceleste defeating Ecuador and the Canucks edging Venezuela, both games concluding in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.

It took some incredible goalkeeping from the incredible Emiliano Martinez, but Argentina managed to defeat Ecuador in the quarter-finals. The Argentines will make their fifth consecutive trip to the tournament's semi-finals on Tuesday, having advanced past this stage in seven of their previous eight attempts.

A semi-final victory would be their first appearance in the Copa America final as defending champions since 1959 when the event was held twice in the same year and the Argentines finished as runners-up the second time. La Albiceleste may extend their unbeaten streak to ten matches across all competitions on Tuesday, conceding only three goals in the process.

On the other hand, Canada are only the third CONCACAF team (Honduras and Mexico) to reach the tournament's semi-finals in their debut. This will be Canada's fifth appearance in the semi-finals of a continental event this century, and they have only moved past this stage twice.

Since the 2001 Copa America, no CONCACAF nation has advanced to the competition's final. Canada's 2-0 loss in the Copa America opener is the Canucks' lone loss to a CONMEBOL team in a continental tournament this century.
