Copa Del Rey Victory Provides Barcelona Extra Motivation For Upcoming Clash With Inter

Hansi Flick asserts that Barcelona's recent Copa del Rey victory enhances their motivation ahead of the Champions League semi-final against Inter. Despite Inter's struggles, Flick emphasises the importance of focus and hard work as they aim for the final.

Hansi Flick sees Barcelona's recent Copa del Rey triumph as a source of motivation for his team ahead of their Champions League semi-final against Inter. Barcelona secured a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid, with Joules Kounde scoring the decisive goal in the 116th minute. This win marked Barcelona's 32nd Copa del Rey title.

Inter, on the other hand, have faced setbacks recently. They were eliminated by AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-finals and suffered a 1-0 defeat to Roma, dropping them below Napoli in Serie A. Despite these challenges, Flick remains focused on the upcoming clash at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Barcelona Gains Motivation from Copa del Rey Win

Flick emphasised that his players are fully aware of the importance of reaching the Champions League final. "No, what I can see is that everyone is focused on this match, that everyone knows how important it is to be able to go to the Champions League final," Flick told reporters. He believes that the victory over Real Madrid has created positive energy within the team.

The coach acknowledged that Inter's squad includes players who might see this as their last chance to reach a final, motivating them to give their all. "Inter have a team where some players are at an age where maybe it's the last opportunity to reach a final, and they will give 100%," he added.

Flick is carefully assessing his team's readiness before deciding on the starting lineup for Wednesday's match. "We'll see tomorrow. Today is not the day to speak about the starting 11. Tomorrow we will see what happens and how they recover," he mentioned. He noted that Inter played on Sunday, giving them less recovery time.

Despite Marc-Andre ter Stegen's return, Wojciech Szczesny will continue as Barcelona's first-choice goalkeeper in the Champions League. The team remains unbeaten in six home matches against Inter in this competition (five wins and one draw). These victories are tied for their most against any opponent in European Cup history.

Historical Edge and Current Form

This season, Barcelona have won all six of their home games in the Champions League, scoring 21 goals. Their record at home mirrors their performance from the 1999-00 campaign when they netted 29 goals across eight matches. However, Flick cautioned against underestimating Inter due to their recent poor form.

"The Champions League is also for Inter a big chance to win a title," Flick stated. He stressed that past results do not influence his focus on preparing his team for this crucial encounter. "It doesn't matter about the matches in the past," he said.

The upcoming match presents both teams with an opportunity to move closer to European glory. With both sides eager to secure a spot in the final, fans can expect an intense battle on Wednesday night.
