Sergio Conceicao has highlighted the Coppa Italia as Milan's most direct route to European competition. The team is preparing for a crucial semi-final against Inter at San Siro. Currently, Milan sits ninth in Serie A, trailing leaders Inter by 20 points and five points behind Roma, who hold the last European qualifying spot.
Conceicao admitted that Milan's performance this season has not met expectations. However, he encouraged his players to remain focused on the possibility of winning silverware to change their fortunes. "Milan aren't used to this ranking, but there are still a lot of games to go," he stated during a pre-match press conference.

The coach expressed mixed emotions about the season so far, saying, "I'm not the happiest in the world because of the things I've experienced over these last months. I've been happy in some moments, disappointed in many more." He acknowledged the need for improvement but noted that it is challenging for everyone involved.
Milan has already defeated Simone Inzaghi's Inter twice this season. One of those victories was a thrilling 3-2 win in January's Supercoppa Italiana final. Conceicao remarked on these past encounters: "They've been important games for us." He also acknowledged that each match presents different challenges due to varying player line-ups.
Conceicao emphasised the significance of focusing solely on the upcoming match against Inter rather than other fixtures. "We're aware that it's important for Europe," he said. He stressed that securing a trophy requires first overcoming Inter and then succeeding in the final.
The coach acknowledged Inter's strength and consistency under their long-term coach. "Let's see what Inter can do," he commented, recognising their solid gameplay and strong team dynamics.
As Milan prepares for this pivotal clash, Conceicao remains optimistic about achieving success through daily efforts rather than looking too far ahead. His focus remains firmly on winning each game as it comes.
