Costa Rica has announced Miguel Herrera, a former Mexico manager, as their new head coach. This decision follows the dismissal of interim manager Claudio Vivas after Costa Rica's exit from the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-finals. Herrera, who led Mexico to the last 16 in the 2014 World Cup, takes over the national team.
The Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) confirmed Herrera's appointment after an extensive selection process. The final decision was made by the FCRF executive committee and new sporting director Ignacio Hierro. "Following an exhaustive selection process that concluded with a final shortlist, the FCRF executive committee, together with new sporting director Ignacio Hierro, made the decision to hire Herrera as the national team's manager," stated the FCRF.

Currently leading Group B in the second round of CONCACAF qualifying, Costa Rica is set to continue their campaign in June against the Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago. The top two teams will progress to the third round, aiming for a fourth consecutive World Cup finals appearance.
Herrera's main goal is to guide Costa Rica to another World Cup. His return to international management comes after coaching stints in Liga MX with Club Tijuana, Tigres, and Club America. His experience will be crucial as he leads Costa Rica through this pivotal phase.
