Philippe Coutinho has officially joined Vasco da Gama on a permanent basis from Aston Villa. The 33-year-old midfielder has committed to a one-year deal with the club where he began his career. He spent the previous season on loan at Vasco, returning to his roots after his stint in Europe.
Coutinho's journey saw him initially move to Aston Villa on loan from Barcelona in January 2022. Four months later, this move became permanent. His last appearance for Villa was in August 2023. Throughout his Premier League tenure with both Villa and Liverpool, Coutinho scored 47 goals and provided 38 assists over 193 matches.

The Brazilian's most successful season was in 2016-17, where he netted 13 goals from midfield, second only to Dele Alli's 18. Before returning to Brazil, Coutinho also played for Inter Milan, Espanyol, Bayern Munich, and Al-Duhail.
At Vasco da Gama, Coutinho has scored 13 goals in 88 appearances. Reflecting on his new contract, he expressed immense joy: "Renewing my contract with Vasco is a moment of great happiness." He cherishes the club as it holds significant personal value for him.
Coutinho shared his sentiments about being back at Vasco: "Vasco is my home. It is the place where I was raised, studied, grew up and where my family and I love." He looks forward to a year of dedication alongside his teammates while wearing the club's colours.
This transfer marks another chapter in Coutinho's illustrious career as he aims to contribute significantly to his boyhood club once more.
