Coventry City Terminates Contract Of Longest-Serving EFL Manager Mark Robins After Eight Years

Coventry City has sacked Mark Robins, their longest-serving EFL manager, after almost eight years. His tenure included promotion to the Championship and a near return to the Premier League.

Mark Robins, the longest-serving manager in the EFL, has been dismissed by Coventry City after nearly eight years. Robins returned to manage at the Coventry Building Society Stadium in 2017. He guided the team from League Two to the Championship. Last season, they narrowly missed a Premier League return, losing to Luton Town in the play-off final.

Coventry City expressed gratitude for Robins' contributions and wished him well for the future. "Coventry City has made the difficult decision to terminate the contract of Mark Robins as manager. We thank Mark for all his achievements with us and wish him the best for the future," stated a tweet from their official account.

Coventry City Sacks Manager Mark Robins

During his second term, Robins managed 387 games, securing 157 victories with a win rate of 39.97%. This success rate was only surpassed during his time at Rotherham United (43.41%) and his initial period with Coventry (51.52%). Despite finishing ninth last season, they reached Wembley but were defeated by Manchester United in an intense FA Cup semi-final.

The start of the 2024-25 season has been challenging for Coventry City. A recent 2-1 loss to Derby County placed them 17th in the league standings, level on points with Plymouth Argyle, who are in relegation danger. This poor performance contributed to Robins' departure.

Interim Leadership Appointment

Rhys Carr, who joined as a first-team coach in July, has been appointed interim head coach following Robins' exit. The club hopes Carr can steer them away from relegation threats and improve their standing in upcoming matches.

Robins' legacy at Coventry is marked by significant achievements despite recent struggles. His leadership saw them rise through divisions and compete at high levels, leaving a lasting impact on the club's history.
