Cristiano Ronaldo has pipped his arch-nemesis Lionel Messi in the top earnings list for the year 2024.
The enduring rivalry between Ronaldo and Messi continues to captivate fans worldwide. Both have maintained their status at the pinnacle of football for over two decades. But in terms of dollars, Portugal's star has managed to pip the Argentine in the latest year.

According to Forbes, the 39-year-old Portuguese star earned an impressive $285 million. Lionel Messi follows him with earnings of $135 million, which is less than half of Ronaldo's income. Ronaldo's earnings stand at a massive Rs 2395 crore for the year 2024, whereas Messi has also racked up an earning of Rs 1135 crore in Indian currency.
Ronaldo's financial success extends beyond the pitch, with numerous brand endorsements and commercial ventures contributing to his wealth. His YouTube channel, 'UR Cristiano,' has also seen rapid growth. Forbes' latest list highlights Ronaldo's dominance in earnings, largely due to his contract with Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, which pays him $200 million.
Lionel Messi, Ronaldo's long-time rival on the field, ranks second on Forbes' list. Playing for Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer (MLS), Messi earns $60 million from his club. His total income reaches $135 million when considering his off-field ventures. Notably, Messi is the only MLS player featured in the top-10 list, and his off-field income eclipses his salary from MLS club Inter Miami.
The Saudi Pro League stands out with four players among the top earners in football for 2024. Clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid also compensate their stars generously. Incidentally, the top four richest footballers are all based outside of Europe in terms of club football.
