Portugal vs Liechtenstein: Will Cristiano Ronaldo play in Euro Qualifiers?

Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is in line to feature for the first time in the national shirt after the World Cup despite the uncertainty surrounding his international career.

Once Portugal's World Cup journey ended in failure, many believed Ronaldo would retire from playing for his country.

His surprising move to the middle east from Europe also put a big question mark on his international career.

However, defying the odds and predictions he now has been included in the national team under Roberto Martinez's tutelage.

The Portuguese Football Team is all set to welcome a new chapter under new coach Roberto Martinez as the Selecao gears up for European Championship qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Luxembourg in this year's first international break.

After a disappointing World Cup 2022 where they crashed out in the Quarter Finals against underdogs Morocco, a lot of things are now in line for a change.

Euro and Nations League winner boss Fernando Santos stepped down from the job following the World Cup.

Former Belgium manager Roberto Martinez took charge of the side next and this will be his first session with the new squad. Martinez is expected to explore and nurture a new generation of Portuguese youngsters.

However, Martinez has clearly insisted in his recent statements that veteran Ronaldo remains a key figure for the national side and he is relying on him.

Ronaldo however is unlikely to be guaranteed a first-team spot in the squad with high-flying Benfica star Goncalo Ramos expected to displace him in the number nine role. Ronaldo could start from the bench against Liechtenstein. The 38-year-old nonetheless is in great form for Al Nassr scoring nine goals in just eight league appearances in the Saudi top flight.
