Cristiano Ronaldo's rise to global football stardom is widely celebrated, but few know of the humble beginnings that shaped his journey.
In an emotional 2019 interview with Piers Morgan, the Portugal captain revealed how, during his teenage years, a small group of McDonald's employees helped him and his teammates with free burgers when they had little to eat.

"We had a McDonald's next to the stadium where we lived," a teary-eyed Ronaldo said, "and we'd always go to the back door and knock on the door asking, 'Hey, any burgers left?'"
He fondly remembered three kind-hearted women who worked at that McDonald's, who would generously offer leftover burgers to him and his friends from Sporting Lisbon.
The former Real Madrid forward expressed his deep desire to reconnect with them, especially a woman named Edna, to personally thank them for their kindness.

Edna, full name Edna Carina Emanuel Caldas, aged 36, was overwhelmed to learn that Ronaldo remembered her after all these years. Speaking to the Portuguese newspaper 'Record', she said: "I'm happy, and it just shows how humble he is. This was something that happened so long ago. I never thought he would remember me."
She further revealed that Cristiano had struck up a friendship with her during his childhood days as a frequent visitor to her MacDonald's outlet, and the now mother-of-two even shared a cup of coffee with the future superstar.
Upon his eventual reunion with Edna, Ronaldo reportedly gifted her the 'largest restaurant in Portugal' as a reward for her kindness.
The story didn't end there as another woman, Paula Leca, came forward as one of the trio who used to serve Ronaldo. She shared her memories with Portuguese radio station Renascenca, saying, "They would appear in front of the restaurant, and when there were hamburgers left over, our manager gave us permission to hand them over. One of the boys was Cristiano Ronaldo, and he was perhaps the most timid of them all."
Paula laughed as she reflected on those days, revealing her son had doubted the story until Ronaldo confirmed it. She added, "If he invited me out for dinner, I'd go for sure. The first thing I'd do would be to say thank you, and during the meal, we'd remember those times."
