Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid teammate wanted to leave club after Fight in International duty

In 2009, Real Madrid's acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo marked a transformative era, especially in their European campaigns. The Portuguese forward's near-decade tenure with Los Blancos was adorned with numerous accolades. However, the team's success wasn't solely hinged on Ronaldo - stalwarts like Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos, and Marcelo played pivotal roles during this golden period.

Interestingly, Marcelo, who joined Real Madrid in 2006 from Fluminense, contemplated leaving the club upon learning of Cristiano Ronaldo's impending arrival. This consideration stemmed from a prior on-field altercation between the two during a Brazil-Portugal friendly in November 2008.

"My relationship with Cristiano started with a fight. In a Brazil-Portugal match, I hit him because he was going too fast. He overstepped, elbowed me, I responded with a kick, and then he grabbed me by the neck. I tried to react, but he was much taller, and I couldn't reach," Marcelo said to La Revuelta.

This incident left a lasting impression on Marcelo. Upon hearing about Ronaldo's transfer to Real Madrid, he wanted to leave the club.

"I got the message that Madrid was going to sign within two months. I thought I'm leaving Madrid."

Despite this rocky start, the duo developed a formidable partnership on the left flank, contributing significantly to Real Madrid's dominance in Europe. Together, they clinched multiple titles, including four UEFA Champions League trophies. Their synergy on the pitch was evident, with Marcelo's overlapping runs complementing Ronaldo's attacking prowess.

Their camaraderie extended beyond match days. Marcelo fondly recalled the competitive spirit between Ronaldo and himself during the training at the Spanish club where they would grab each other's necks many times.

Marcelo's journey with Real Madrid spanned 16 years, during which he amassed 546 appearances and secured 25 trophies, solidifying his status as one of the club's legends. His initial apprehensions about Ronaldo's arrival transformed into a partnership that left an indelible mark on football history.
