Cristiano Ronaldo tries to Punch Referee after getting Sent Off against Al Hilal?

Cristiano Ronaldo got a straight Red Card against Al Hilal in the Saudi Super Cup semifinal on Monday (April 8).

The Al Nassr captain got the marching orders in the 86th minute of the match for violent conduct on an Al Hilal player. Al Hilal were already leading 2-0 at that time and Ronaldo couldn't control his frustration and elbowed one of the Al Hilal players on the sideline.

Al Hilal vs Al Nassr: Why did Cristiano Ronaldo get Red Card?

In the 86th minute of the match, Cristiano Ronaldo elbowed Ali Al Boleahi. The Al Hilal defender was trying to block Ronaldo from taking a quick throw and the Portugal international elbowed him on his chest twice. The sudden violent attack on Boleai left him on the floor and that ignited a brawl among the players. Cristiano Ronaldo was shown a straight Red Card by the referee.

Ronaldo left the pitch reluctantly and sarcastically applauded the referee before leaving for the tunnel.

Earlier after the end of the first half, Cristiano Ronaldo was shown a Yellow for dissent. Otavio put the ball in the back of the net but his goal was disallowed as Ronaldo attempted to play the ball from an offside position.

Did Cristiano Ronaldo attempt to Punch the Referee?

A video has emerged on the internet just after Ronaldo was shown the Red Card. It shows as the referee turned the other way, Cristiano Ronaldo raised his fist in an attempt to punch someone. He didn't complete with his act and refrained, but it was quite baffling and unbelievable to see the way the Al Nassr captain reacted after being rightfully sent off.

It is unlikely that Cristiano Ronaldo raised his fist to punch the referee, but he shouldn't have done that movement of his hand in the first place. Given the stature he holds in football, the antics in the first half, the way he elbowed his opponent in the chest and then the reaction after the Red Card were not expected.

With the straight Red Card, the Al Nassr captain is likely to miss the next three matches. In the semifinal, Al Nassr lost by a 2-1 margin. Sadio Mane scored a late consolation for Al Nassr but Salem Al-Dawsari and Malcom scored the goals for Al Hilal as they advance to the Saudi Super Cup Final.
