Cristiano Ronaldo will win Ballon d'Or 2016, confirms Spanish media

Bengaluru, Dec 6: Eminent Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo has confirmed the news that Real Madrid and Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will win the prestigious Ballon d'Or award 2016.

Ronaldo who was deemed by many as the standout performer in the present year has topped the popularity list among football fans.

Spanish media Sports daily's famous journalist Francesc Aguilar, has revealed that the announcement will be made at 7 pm local time on Monday, December 12.

According to reports, people from France Football will be present at Madrid to conduct the exclusive interview of Ronaldo after conferring him with the coveted trophy.

Cristiano Ronaldo would consider 2016 as one of the best years in his illustrious career as he won the second UEFA Champions League trophy for Real Madrid in 3 years.

He also won the much awaited Euro Cup 2016 with underdogs Portugal. Portugal's triumph at the Euro 2016 was nothing short of a fairytale with Cristiano Ronaldo leading from the front.

The other contenders for the award are Ronaldo's fiercest on-field rival Lionel Messi, other FC Barcelona stars like Neymar and Luis Suarez and Atletico Madrid star Antoine Greizmann.

Griezmann too have had an eventful year as he came close to winning both Champions League and Euro Cup.

His club side Atletico Madrid and national side France reached the finals of Champions League and Euro 2016 but unfortunately, finished second based.

If the reports are to be believed then Ronaldo will be bagging his 4th Ballon d'Or award, 1 less than Lionel Messi.
