Crowd Violence Halts Mohammedan SC vs Kerala Blasters as KBFC Secure Comeback 2-1 Win

The Indian Super League (ISL) clash between Mohammedan SC and Kerala Blasters was overshadowed by crowd violence on Sunday, as the game had to be paused due to fan unrest. Kerala Blasters eventually came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.

However, the chaotic scenes in the stands stole much of the spotlight. The trouble began late in the second half when Kerala Blasters overturned a 1-0 deficit to take the lead, and the home crowd became quite frustrated with their own team's performance and the away fans at the stadium.

The situation escalated as frustrated home fans began hurling bottles, sticks, and other objects onto the field. Firecrackers were set off in the stands, further heightening the tension. Security personnel struggled to control the chaos, and the referee was forced to stop the game as both teams were escorted off the pitch.

Efforts to calm the crowd were led by Mohammedan's local player, Samad Ali Mallick, who pleaded with the fans for peace. After a brief delay, the match resumed, but the volatile atmosphere remained. Despite several late chances for Mohammedan SC to equalize, Kerala Blasters held on to their 2-1 lead.

Mohammedan had gone ahead in the 28th minute after Mirjalol Kasimov converted a penalty awarded when Carlos Franca was fouled by Blasters' goalkeeper Som Kumar. The hosts looked comfortable heading into halftime with the one-goal advantage, but Kerala came out with renewed intensity after the break.

The turning point came in the 67th minute when Kwame Peprah, who had been brought on as a substitute, equalized for Kerala Blasters. Just moments later, Jesus Jimenez headed in a cross from Naocha Singh to put the visitors in front. The rapid shift in momentum angered the Mohammedan supporters.

The fans were already upset over an earlier penalty appeal that was waved off by the referee. The game, in the end, will be remembered less for Kerala's comeback and more for the crowd trouble that interrupted it.

Either of the clubs are yet to release any statement on the matter. However, one of the Kerala fan groups posted on social media. An investigation can certainly be expected, with potential sanctions looming over Mohammedan SC for the unruly behavior of their supporters.
