Cruz Azul Coach Vicente Sanchez Grateful For Fans' Trust After Champions Cup Triumph

Vicente Sanchez, head coach of Cruz Azul, thanked fans following a decisive 5-0 victory against Vancouver in the Concacaf Champions Cup final. This win marks Cruz Azul's seventh title, equalling a record and securing their place in the 2029 Club World Cup.

Cruz Azul's head coach, Vicente Sanchez, expressed his gratitude to those who believed in him after his team triumphed in the Concacaf Champions Cup final. The Mexican side convincingly defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 5-0 in Mexico City. They netted four goals before the break, with Angel Sepulveda sealing the win with his second goal shortly after halftime.

Despite joining Cruz Azul only in January, rumours circulated about Sanchez's potential departure. However, the Uruguayan coach emphasised his commitment to repaying the trust placed in him. "Giving back to the people who trusted in me is the best thing that can happen," said Sanchez. "Now, we are giving an international title to Cruz Azul. The truth is that I live in today, I'm happy, I don't think about the future."

Sanchez Thanks Fans After Champions Cup Win

The Vancouver Whitecaps, currently leading the Western Conference in MLS, failed to register a single shot on target during the match. Head coach Jesper Sorensen shared his disappointment following the defeat. "We came with hope and aspiration and ambition, of course, now there's devastation," Sorensen stated.

Sorensen acknowledged their journey through the tournament but admitted they fell short against Cruz Azul. "We made a great tournament. We've beaten great teams on our way, but today we couldn't put on a performance to beat a really good team like Cruz Azul; that's how sometimes it is with sports," he remarked.

This victory marked Cruz Azul's seventh Champions Cup win, equalling Club America's record and securing their place in the 2029 Club World Cup. Sanchez's focus remains on present achievements rather than future uncertainties.

Sorensen expressed sympathy for his players after their disappointing performance. "I feel sorry for the players... to win we needed our best performance, and today it was quite the opposite," he said. He acknowledged that Cruz Azul outperformed them in every aspect of the game.
