Crystal Palace Dominate Fiorentina 3-0 To Take Commanding First-Leg Lead In Europa Conference League

Crystal Palace placed one foot in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals after a controlled 3-0 win over Fiorentina at Selhurst Park. The hosts produced a composed display in this first leg, combining early pressure, clinical finishing and solid defending to secure a strong scoreline ahead of the return match in Italy.

The breakthrough came from the penalty spot in the 24th minute. Evann Guessand was tripped inside the area by Dodo, and Jean-Philippe Mateta calmly drove the kick straight down the centre. That goal rewarded Palace’s bright start and shifted the tie firmly towards Oliver Glasner’s side before half-time.

Tyrick Mitchell quickly built on that momentum seven minutes later. Mitchell advanced from the left and drilled a low left-footed effort across goal into the bottom right corner. The strike gave Palace a 2-0 lead and left Fiorentina struggling to disrupt the rhythm or create sustained pressure against the home defence.

Earlier, Palace had already threatened through two dangerous Daniel Munoz crosses. Mateta and Guessand both met deliveries inside the box but could not hit the target. Fiorentina created little in that spell, while the hosts continued to press forward and pin the visitors deep, encouraged by the home crowd.

Daichi Kamada almost supplied a third goal before the interval, driving forward from midfield and testing Fiorentina’s defensive shape. At the other end, Dean Henderson preserved the cushion by reacting sharply to keep out Albert Gudmundsson’s powerful header, one of Fiorentina’s few clear openings during a difficult evening in London.

Palace continued to create chances after the restart. Mateta sent a header off target, then Ismaila Sarr also missed the frame from another promising cross. Fiorentina still offered limited attacking threat, and the visitors’ struggles were finally punished again in stoppage time as Palace completed a decisive three-goal margin.

Sarr delivered the final blow in the last moments of normal time. Meeting a precise cross from Kamada, Sarr rose unmarked and powered a header into the top right corner. That goal extended Palace’s first-leg advantage and reflected the territorial control maintained by Glasner’s players through most of the contest.

The data underlined Palace’s superiority in this Europa Conference League tie. Glasner’s team produced 3.05 expected goals (xG), while Fiorentina managed only 0.45 xG. The visitors recorded eight attempts, with just two on target, marking Fiorentina’s lowest shot count in any Conference League fixture during the current campaign.

Palace’s attacking record in the competition also stayed impressive. The team have now scored in nine of their 11 Conference League matches, extending a strong scoring sequence. Only Lech Poznan, who have found the net in 10 games, have scored in more separate matches in this season’s tournament so far.

Across the 90 minutes, Crystal Palace combined efficiency in front of goal with defensive control to secure a clear first-leg edge over Fiorentina. The 3-0 result, supported by strong underlying numbers, leaves Palace in a commanding position before the second leg, while Fiorentina must respond strongly to stay in the Europa Conference League.
