Crystal Palace Aims To Compete With Any Team When At Their Best, Says Chris Richards

Chris Richards expresses confidence that Crystal Palace can compete against top teams in the Premier League when performing at their peak. Despite a slow start this season, he believes in their potential to challenge any opponent.

Chris Richards believes Crystal Palace can compete with any team when they perform at their best. Ahead of their Premier League match against Aston Villa, Richards expressed confidence despite Palace's challenging start. They have only one league win this season, a 1-0 victory over Tottenham, and are yet to secure an away win, with two draws and three losses. However, they did defeat Villa 2-1 in the EFL Cup.

Richards acknowledged the team's struggles but remains optimistic about their potential. "Oliver Glasner told us from the jump that there was no reason we shouldn't be in a higher spot in the table, no reason why we should lose to any team," he stated. He highlighted their performance against Manchester City as proof of their capability when playing at their peak.

Crystal Palace Can Compete with Any Team

Aston Villa had a strong start to the season but stumbled before the international break, going five matches without a win across all competitions and losing the last three. Morgan Rogers has been a standout player for Villa this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists. He credits his form to Unai Emery's trust and support.

"I think any player would say that trust from a manager is the most important thing," Rogers said. "He threw me in the deep end when people were injured last season and gave me a chance to shine." Rogers appreciates Emery's demands and feels motivated by his teammates to improve daily.

Emiliano Martinez has struggled this season, with a save percentage of 60.5%, ranking fourth-lowest in the Premier League. According to Opta's expected goals on target model, only Alphonse Areola and Jose Sa have conceded more goals than expected compared to Martinez.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has excelled against Aston Villa, scoring four Premier League goals and recording two assists against them. He played a crucial role in Crystal Palace's 5-0 victory over Villa last season, contributing three goals and one assist.

Match Prediction: Aston Villa Favoured

Aston Villa have been dominant at home against Crystal Palace, losing just once in 12 Premier League encounters (W7 D4). They have never conceded more than once in these meetings. The away side has won only three of their 24 Premier League clashes with Villa (D6 L15), with Palace's sole victory at Villa Park occurring in December 2013.

Despite recent struggles, Villa could lose three consecutive league games for just the second time under Unai Emery if they falter again. Meanwhile, Palace have accumulated only seven points from their first 11 league matches this season (W1 D4 L6), marking one of their poorest starts.

Opta Win Probability Analysis

Aston Villa Draw Crystal Palace
57.2% 22.3% 20.5%

The Opta win probability suggests Aston Villa are favourites with a 57.2% chance of winning. A draw stands at 22.3%, while Crystal Palace has a 20.5% probability of securing victory.

If Crystal Palace replicate their previous success against Aston Villa from last season's final day, it would mark consecutive league wins over them for the first time since achieving three straight victories between 2005 and 2014.
