Crystal Palace Edge Wolves As Guessand Nets Late Winner

Crystal Palace secured a 1-0 victory over 10-man Wolverhampton Wanderers when Evann Guessand struck a late, decisive goal. The win eases pressure on Oliver Glasner after a difficult spell, with Palace dominating toward the end and Wolves reduced to ten men after Ladislav Krejci’s red card.

Evann Guessand struck a 90th-minute winner for Crystal Palace against 10-man Wolves, easing pressure on Oliver Glasner with a 1-0 home victory. The substitute slid in to meet Tyrick Mitchell’s low cross, beating Jose Sa and securing three vital points that eased relegation concerns.

The late goal denied Rob Edwards’ side a result after a stubborn defensive display with a player fewer. Wolves had stayed compact following Ladislav Krejci’s dismissal, but could not hold out. Palace’s supporters, frustrated by recent form, finally saw a tight contest swing their way at the death.

Palace edge Wolves as Guessand nets late winner

Sunday’s match hinged on two major incidents for Crystal Palace vs Wolves. The first came on 43 minutes when Dean Henderson saved Tolu Arokodare’s penalty after Adam Wharton tripped Mateus Mane in the box. The second arrived after the interval, when Krejci’s quick-fire bookings left Wolves short-handed.

Krejci received his first yellow card at 57:04, then collected another at 60:20 for kicking the ball away. The two cautions, separated by only 196 seconds, produced Wolves’ third Premier League red card of the season. From that point, Palace pushed higher and controlled territory against the 10 players.

Before those turning points, Crystal Palace had struggled for rhythm and were second-best for long spells. Yeremy Pino hit the post from a rehearsed corner move, but Wolves carried more threat. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde forced Henderson into two saves as Palace’s defence looked stretched under sustained pressure.

Henderson, making his 150th Premier League appearance, delivered the game’s most important stop from the spot. That penalty save was Henderson’s fifth from 15 faced in the competition. His 33.3% success rate equals Mark Bosnich, who saved six of 18, as the best among goalkeepers facing at least 15 penalties.

Crystal Palace vs Wolves stats and away struggles

Despite defeat, Wolves competed well in the numbers against Crystal Palace vs Wolves. They almost matched Palace for attempts, with 14 shots to 12, and shaded the expected goals count, 1.68 xG to 1.67. The visitors’ effort highlighted their organisation even after going down to 10 players.

However, the loss deepened Wolves’ long-running problems on their travels. Edwards’ team are now without a win in 16 away Premier League matches, recording four draws and 12 defeats. Palace, who also benefited when Will Hughes avoided a second yellow, climbed further from danger with this tight success.

Glasner had faced criticism from sections of Palace’s fanbase before kick-off, especially after urging them to "stay humble" during a poor sequence that threatened to pull the club into a relegation fight. This narrow victory, secured by Guessand’s first Palace goal, provided scoreboard relief and a much-needed lift in mood.
