Oliver Glasner expressed immense satisfaction with Crystal Palace's performance in their first Community Shield victory. The team managed to match Liverpool's level, drawing 2-2 in regular time before triumphing 3-2 in the penalty shoot-out. Dean Henderson's crucial saves were pivotal in this win at Wembley Stadium.
The Premier League champions initially took the lead through Hugo Ekitike's early goal. However, Jean-Philippe Mateta equalised with a penalty shortly after. Liverpool regained the advantage with Jeremie Frimpong's cross-shot before halftime, but Ismaila Sarr levelled again for Palace.

In the penalty shoot-out, Henderson saved attempts from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliot. Justin Devenny's decisive spot-kick secured Palace's victory. This marked the third consecutive year that the Community Shield was won by a team that conceded first and then won on penalties.
Palace demonstrated an improved second-half performance, ending with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.03 compared to Liverpool’s 1.08 from their 14 shots. Glasner praised his team's efforts, stating: "A big credit to the players for this game... I’m really proud of the team and how they played today."
Following their FA Cup success last season, Palace will compete in Europe this year. However, it remains undecided whether they will participate in the Europa League or Conference League due to multi-club ownership issues. An appeal hearing is scheduled for Monday to resolve this matter.
Glasner has voiced concerns about Palace’s limited activity in the transfer market this summer, having only signed Walter Benitez and Borna Sosa. Despite being pleased with his current squad, he hinted at potential new signings before the start of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
"First of all, I'm very happy with the squad because they won the trophy," Glasner stated. He emphasised that playing more games is a reward rather than a burden and expressed confidence in finding a balance within the team as they prepare for European competition.
The manager highlighted the importance of winning trophies and securing European football for Palace’s future ambitions: "We want to win something, we want European football, and we will be ready for it." He remains optimistic about strengthening his squad further.
